MARCH #YAOTM: SOPHIA GIORDANO ‘09

i’d like to nominate sophia giordano for young alum of the month.
since graduating in 2009, sophia has been teaching at her alma mater, the buxton school, in western massachusetts (williamstown, to be specific). she lives at the school, serving as teacher/friend/counselor to a few dozen young folks, many of whom are living away from home and trying to navigate the often less than pleasant channels of adulthood.
when sophia realized that many of her students were undereducated in the realm of sexual health, she took it upon herself to seek and develop a sex-positive curriculum that would encourage students to ask questions of themselves and of each other (and of her).
i could go on for days about the work she’s put into this process. what it really comes down to is that sophia is an incredibly wonderful, holistic educator. she is just as concerned with her students’ intellectual health as she is with their emotional growth and development and that is worthy of praise.
